Congratulations to Dr. Natalie Afshari for what seems to be countless recent accomplishments!  Among these are her nominations for both the Pulumbo Award and the Tow Award at Duke Medical Center.  These awards are reserved for the select few physicians who exemplify and deliver the highest level of compassionate patient care and for outstanding mentoring to the next generation of physicians and trainees at Duke!  Serving as Chief Judge for the 2011 ASCRS Poster judging session, I personally witnessed Dr. Afshari bringing the academic activity of that session to a brand new level of excellence under her leadership.  I am excited to learn that she has been selected as co-editor of a brand new comprehensive compendium resource textbook for Cornea and External Disease coming out later this year.  She has successfully redefined career multitasking and is my candidate for successfully solving the Fuchs’ corneal dystrophy genetic mystery.
