My preference is for using a Toric IOL for astigmatism greater than 1.25 diopters; however, for small amounts of astigmatism, less than 1.25Diopters, a limbal relaxing incision or LRI  (astigmatic keratotomy =AK) is also an option.  This video demonstrates a case of cataract surgery that also corrects a small amount of astigmatism with an LRI rather than a Toric IOL.  For patients having 1.5D or greater degrees of corneal astigmatism, I still strongly recommend that patients invest in a Toric IOL which I believe has the best value or return on investment for patients seeking premium IOL technology!
